Jonathan E. Fielding, MD, MPH, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Health Officer, has issued an order mandating that healthcare personnel in acute care hospitals, long term care facilities, and intermediate care facilities in Los Angeles County be vaccinated against influenza, or wear a protective mask. The goal of the order is to lower the rates of transmission of influenza among healthcare personnel and the vulnerable populations that they serve.

The influenza vaccination order applies to all individuals working in acute care hospitals, long term care facilities, and intermediate care facilities who have direct patient contact or work in patient areas during the influenza season (November 1 through March 31). It excludes facilities in the cities of Long Beach and Pasadena, which are separate health jurisdictions.
