We are responsible for enforcing general
sanitation and occupational health and safety
requirements within garment manufacturing
establishments, commercial laundries, unlicensed commercial buildings, and wiping
cloth establishments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SERVICES:
- Conduct routine, follow-up, complaint and public
health license waiver inspections of garment
manufacturing establishments, wiping cloth
businesses, unlicensed commercial buildings and a
variety of other establishments within the Apparel
Industry, most of which require a State Certificate
of Registration and a public health license
- Inspect commercial laundries that handle
hospital linen to ensure the adherence to
established control measures for infectious waste
such as blood, urine and feces
- Inspect commercial laundries to ensure that hot
water temperature and exposure times are maintained
to properly disinfect and sanitize commercial
linens, garments, uniforms, and wiping cloths
- Ensure that garment manufacturers provide
approved drinking water to their employees and that
the drinking water is stored and dispensed in a
healthy and safe manner to control communicable
diseases
- Enforce general sanitation codes regarding
sanitary, structural and operational conditions of
the garment manufacturing establishment, including
restrooms, storage rooms, lunch rooms, work areas,
exterior premises, refuse, vermin, lighting,
mechanical, electrical, and ventilation
- Determine the number and type of toilet
facilities in the Garment facility as dictated by
law by assessing the number and gender of the
employees
- Ensure compliance with Child Labor Laws
- Ensure that unlicensed commercial buildings that
house garment-manufacturing operations adhere to the
Los Angeles County Code Title 11 as it relates to
restrooms (structural and operational), walls,
ceilings, floors (structural and operational),
vermin (structural and operational), refuse and
refuse containers
