Notes:

A model we use within SAPT. We have an overarching belief in harm reduction. We believe in abstinence for those who are drug or alcohol dependent and ready/willing to stop. For everyone else, we do what whatever works. The focus is always on the strengths of the youth versus the problems of the youth and we use motivational interviewing, CBT, contingency management, BSFT and positive youth development – Peer Educators, Youth Councils, anything where youth can be leaders. We are also fortunate to have the Teenage Health Clinic and the Saban Free Clinic as partners in referring youth to healthcare, and as stated our clinicians are masters level staff with mental health and substance abuse training. We do a lot of outreach and education, to start where the client is. Recovery Oriented services is something we also believe in, which is really about partnering more with the youth and their families, the real experts…looking at recovery on a continuum. Expecting progress not perfection.
