The Service Planning Area (SPA) 7 East also called SPA7, is one of the eight Area Health Offices created within the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services with the purpose of planning public health and clinical services according to the health needs of local communities. There are four major geographic areas within SPA7 called health districts. These four health districts encompass 22 cities and 5 unincorporated areas, and are known as: the Bellflower Health District, the East LA Health District, the San Antonio Health District, and the Whittier Health District.



WHAT IS THE EAST SERVICE PLANNING AREA (SPA) 7?

The Service Planning Area (SPA) 7 East also called SPA7, is one of the eight Area Health Offices created within the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services with the purpose of planning public health and clinical services according to the health needs of local communities.

There are four major geographic areas within SPA7 called health districts. These four health districts encompass 22 cities and 5 unincorporated areas. The four health districts in SPA7 include:

  • Bellflower Health District: Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Norwalk and Signal Hill
  • East Los Angeles Health District: City of Commerce, East Los Angeles and Montebello
  • San Antonio Health District: Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Maywood, South Gate and Vernon
  • Whittier Health District: La Habra Heights, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, La Mirada and Whittier
  • The 5 Unincorporated Areas: City Terrace (part of East Los Angeles), Whittier (South, West, Northeast, Northwest), Walnut Park (part of San Antonio), La Habra Heights and Los Nietos (part of Santa Fe Springs)

AREA HEALTH OFFICE

AREA HEALTH OFFICER (Silvia Prieto, MD, MPH @ 562-464-5348) The Area Health Officer (AHO) provides public health leadership in the Service Planning Area (SPA) and is in charge of organizing the planning of public health and clinical services according to the health needs of the local communities in the SPA.

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING Public Health Nurses (PHNs) work in the community providing disease management, health education and resource coordination to individuals and families.

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT Clinical services for TB and STD; directs communicable disease and outbreak investigations; and offers medical consultation to private sector physicians.

EPIDEMIOLOGY Collection, analysis and distribution of comprehensive health data and coordination of evaluation services.

HEALTH EDUCATION Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of health education programs throughout the community.

PUBLIC HEALTH INVESTIGATION Investigation and enforcement in the areas of communicable disease control, TB, STDs and conduct outreach programs.

PUBLIC HEALTH REGISTRAR Issuance of birth and death certificates; assistance in reportable diseases. Outbreaks and unusual disease occurrence notification.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT Clinical records and health information management to support quality and performance improvement; outcome monitoring.
