Training and Services
The Office of Violence Prevention's Trauma Informed Care initiative works to prevent and address violence by strengthening trauma informed approaches among county providers and systems, particularly those serving children and families. Through an equity and public health lens, the Trauma Informed Care Specialist works to build organizational capacity for trauma informed and healing centered work.
We do this through two strategies:

Trauma Informed Care Implementation Models
(Currently only available for Los Angeles County Departments)
Similarly to the way there is no fixed definition, there is also no single strategy for trauma informed care. Working together in a group with a trained facilitator over the course of a few sessions can help organizations build foundational knowledge. During these sessions, participants will develop a shared language and common understanding of trauma.
Full trauma informed transformation takes commitment, time, and resources. However, not all organizations can commit to the same level of training and technical assistance. In this way, we have developed 3 different models for building organizational capacity for trauma informed care. These three models are listed from introductory to comprehensive.
Model I - Introduction to Trauma: Brief Awareness Training (4 hours)
Description: A one-time interactive workshop that introduces the foundations of a trauma informed approach

Model III - Full Trauma Informed and Resiliency-Focused Transformation (6-12 months)
Description: Designed for departments and agencies with readiness to implement comprehensive Trauma Informed Care organizational change. There is a gap between learning about trauma and actually practicing trauma informed care. In order to address this gap, the Office of Violence Prevention will partner with select organizations and design a tailored program that includes a need assessment, training, and technical assistance to strengthen and sustain a trauma informed care commitment and environment. To support the implementation and sustainability of TIC efforts, the following trainings and activities are recommended:

Learning Institutes
(Available for both Los Angeles County departments and Partner Organizations)
Learning Institutes are workshops that provide a deep-dive into a specific Trauma Informed topic. Experts from the field leave working professionals and community with increased knowledge and tools they need to support individuals and families that have been exposed to trauma and violence. The goal of our learning institutes is to build community and culture-changing efforts focused on understanding trauma and collective healing.
