A San Diego company is recalling about 160,000 "Let's Start Numbers" and "Optiical Illusions Lab" educational kits because of a risk of lead poisoning.
Advantage Publishers Group has had no reports of illness and is issuing the recall as a precaution.
The "Let's Start" kit has a blue and red cover with a dog on the front and contains an interactive book and a packet of activity pieces to introduce children to numbers. The red painted numbers on the acetate stencil sheet included in the kit contain lead.
The "Optical Illusions" kit has various geometric shapes on the cover. Gold paint on the included black pen also has lead.
Stores nationwide sold the educational kits from February 1999 through May 2001 for between $13 and $20.
Consumers should immediately remove the stencil sheets and pens from the activity kits and discard them. The other kit components have not been recalled.
Consumers should call Advantage Publishers Group toll-free at 1-866-748-3731 to order replacement pieces.
