Bronchial Washings, Sputum, Transtracheal Aspirates:
Collect in sterile 50 ml conical screw cap centrifuge tube. Must be received in laboratory within 24 hours.
Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) and other Sterile Body Fluids:
Collect 1-2 ml in sterile leak- proof vial.
Conjunctival Swab:
Gently rub the conjunctiva with sterile swab and place in CulturetteŽ tube.
Genital swab for other than Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia:
Rub lesion firmly with sterile swab and place in CulturetteŽ tube.
Nasal Swab:
Collect secretions from anterior nasal mucosa with sterile swab, place swab in CulturetteŽ tube.
