Remind graduating 6th graders and prepare your school for the 7th grade Tdap Requirement next fall. Resources to Help!

Before your 6th graders leave for summer vacation and return to school in the fall, there’s time to remind them about the 7th grade Tdap vaccine requirement. Don’t let your staff or your students be caught unprepared on the first day of school next fall! Know how your school will collect vaccination documentation or an exemption* by the time school starts.

Resources from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Immunization Program
The Los Angeles County Immunization Program has created a Pertussis Booster Toolkit to assist schools with the implementation of the new immunization school law, Assembly Bill 354.
This new immunization law went into effect on July 1, 2011. It requires all students entering grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 to receive a pertussis booster vaccine before they can enter school in the 2011 – 2012 school year. The required vaccine is called Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis). After this school year, the pertussis booster will only be required for students entering the 7th grade.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Immunization Program urges schools to inform parents and students of the new law as soon as possible. We have prepared a Pertussis Booster Toolkit for Schools which contains information about the new law and a number of resources to assist schools as they implement the requirement.
