Workforce Development and Advisory Services

Recruitment and Training

The Recruitment & Training Program is responsible for several duties within the Environmental Health Division. The program provides extensive classroom training to newly hired Environmental Health Specialist Trainees on Federal, State, and local laws/codes enforced by Environmental Health, as well as inspection processes and workflows. Recruitment & Training also provides and coordinates Continuing Education training for Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) staff to ensure staff remain updated on recent law and policy changes.


  • Oversees the Undergraduate Academic Internship Program for Environmental Health
  • Participates in career fairs at local colleges and universities
  • Coordinates the orientation and training of all new employees
  • Develops and oversees training curriculum for new Environmental Health Specialists
  • Coordinates training for new hires with specialty programs within Environmental Health
  • Tracks and reports all EHS I Trainee training hours to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH)
  • Prepares REHS examination eligibility letters for CDPH
  • Oversees and tracks mandatory training course completion for all Environmental Health staff
  • Provides Continuing Education training opportunities for REHS staff

A convenience fee per transaction will apply. The convenience fee for Credit/Debit Cards is 2.22% with a $1.49 minimum. Electronic Check fees are only $0.49.
