The Chief Physician II serves as the Department of Public Health’s Chief Science Officer. The position reports to the Department Director and provides leadership across the Department on the use of science and data to inform public health programs, policy development, and external communications and partnerships. The position also oversees the following units within the Department’s Executive Office: Office of Health Assessment and Epidemiology, Center for Health Impact Evaluation, Quality Improvement and Accreditation Program, Office of the Institutional Review Board, Information Management and Analytics Office, and Public Health Library.

Associate Medical Director
HIV and STD Prevention

The Division of HIV/STD Programs (DHSP) of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) is seeking a physician leader to serve as an Associate Medical Director and direct its HIV and STD Prevention Unit. The Associate Medical Director will be responsible for a range of initiatives to reduce new HIV and STD infections through expanded testing and increased uptake of biobehavioral interventions, including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. They join a team of highly skilled and energetic clinicians, public health nurses, researchers, epidemiologists, and administrators. The position offers an opportunity to make a major contribution to the achievement of better health and health equity outcomes for persons at risk for or diagnosed with HIV and STDs.

Division of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health

The Division of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health of the Los Angles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) is seeking a physician leader to direct its Perinatal and Infant Health Unit. The Director will have major responsibility for a constellation of programs aimed at improving outcomes for mothers, infants, young children, and families in all Los Angeles County (LAC) communities, but especially in communities that face unequal access to resources that are critical to good health. Central to the role will be leadership for programs developed specifically to eliminate persistent inequity in birth outcomes for Black women as compared to women of other racial/ethnic groups.

Physician Specialist – Community Field Services Physician Specialist
Community Field Services

The Physician Specialist is a licensed physician who has completed a residency in an approved area of specialty and who reports to a Medical Director, Community and Field Services (MD-CFS) in the Community and Field Services Division. The Physician Specialist works to improve the health and well-being of community members and ensures that medically related services provided by the Community and Field Services Division are aligned with LAC DPH objectives. The Physician Specialist also provides some support as a clinician in Clinic Services.

Service Planning Area Regional Health Officer

The Regional Health Officer (RHO) is a medical administrative position within the Bureau of Disease Control that will report to the Bureau of Disease Control Director/Chief Medical Officer. The RHO will oversee the SPA 3 – San Gabriel Valley region that serves the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Claremont, Covina, Diamond Bar, Duarte, El Monte, Glendora, Irwindale, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Pomona, San Dimas, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City, Walnut, West Covina, and others. There are two public health centers within SPA 3 – Monrovia Health Center and the Pomona Center for Public Health.

This position serves as a licensed clinical physician who will serve as a floating physician in the tuberculosis, Family PACT and sexual health clinics to fill gaps in provider coverage across various areas throughout North and South Los Angeles County. This will mean travel to any of the health centers located in North or South County where the physician has been assigned. The clinics are composed of teams of highly skilled and energetic clinicians, nurses, and administrators whose work informs and guides LAC’s progressive response to communicable and non-communicable diseases. The Physician Specialist provides medical care on a full-time basis and reports to the Medical Director.

Physician Specialist – COVID-19 Outbreak Management, Temporary positions job announcement Physician Specialist
COVID-19 Outbreak Management
Temporary positions

This position will be responsible for assisting the Department’s COVID-19 Outbreak Management Branch or the Persons Experiencing Homelessness Branch that manages COVID-19 outbreaks. The Physician Specialist will be required to make site visits to COVID-19 outbreak sites as needed. All other work will be conducted remotely.

Please Note: This position is currently being offered as temporary/seasonal employment. If hired, the physician will be processed through a contracting agency. Please do not apply to the “exam” portion through the County of Los Angeles.
