Health Literacy
In LA county, 53% of adults have low literacy levels,
affecting their ability to search for and use health
information, adopt healthy behaviors, and act on
important public health alerts. As Department of
Public Health employees, we need to make sure our
audience has the ability to receive, understand, and
apply our messages to make appropriate decisions about
their health. In an effort to better communicate
with LA county residents, Health Education
Administration developed the "Say it Right the First
Time" manual as a guideline for public health
professionals.
